Georgia voters trust their election processes & reject false election-related narratives
To better understand Georgia voters’ views on election processes and administration, Cygnal conducted a statewide survey of likely 2024 general election voters on behalf of Secure Democracy Foundation. Our summary findings show broad consensus around key issues, including that Georgia voters trust their election processes, are prepared for the 2024 elections, and reject false election-related narratives.
Georgia voters consider the state’s elections secure and are confident their votes will be accurately counted
According to the poll, 63% of voters agree that Georgia’s elections are generally secure and are confident that their vote will be accurately counted.
The poll also found that 66% of Georgia voters are confident that election results in Georgia will be accurate for the upcoming 2024 election.
A majority of voters reject claims of fraud following the 2020 presidential election. Only 31% of voters think there was major fraud that changed the outcome of the election.
Georgia voters trust the checks and balances in their local and state election administration
Georgia voters support current election processes
67% of Georgia voters say the current system of checks and balances between local and state officials works.
69% of Georgia voters express confidence in the accuracy and reliability of voting equipment used throughout Georgia’s polling places.
78% of Georgia voters said it was more important for election officials to take sufficient time to ensure that every eligible vote is counted accurately than to complete the vote count as quickly as possible.
Georgia voters support fully funding elections:
89% of Georgia voters support the state providing the necessary resources and funding to local election officials to ensure fair, accurate, and smooth elections.
Georgia voters support nonpartisan voter registration list maintenance:
69% of Georgia voters support staying in ERIC, a multi-state program designed to help states keep their voter rolls up to date by removing ineligible voters, providing voter registration information to those who are eligible to vote, and investigating potential illegal voting.
Georgia voters believe proof and evidence are needed to challenge election results:
79% of Georgia voters believe someone should only be able to challenge another voter’s voter registration if they make specific allegations with evidence against the person they challenge.
Seven in ten Georgia voters believe absent clear and convincing proof of irregularities, state officers should declare the winner of Georgia elections based on the verified vote counting done by local election officials.
Georgia voters support measures that improve voting access
Georgia voters support measures to accommodate voters of different backgrounds:
64% of Georgia voters support ensuring that polling places have resources in languages other than English, such as voter guides or ballot initiative descriptions.
56% of Georgia voters support restoring voting eligibility to Georgians with a past felony conviction who have completed all other terms of probation and/or parole, but haven’t yet paid fines and fees.
Georgia voters support the state’s voter registration systems:
64% of Georgia voters support the state’s online voter registration system, where eligible voters are able to use a secure online portal to register to vote or to update their voter registration information.
54% of Georgia voters support the state’s automatic voter registration system, where eligible voters who interact with a government office, such as the Department of Drivers Services, are automatically registered to vote or have their existing registration updated unless they opt out.
Methodology
This probabilistic survey was conducted Nov. 13-14, 2023, with 800 likely general election voters in Georgia. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.46%. Known registered voters were interviewed via live calls and SMS. This survey was weighted to a likely general election voter universe. Secure Democracy Foundation commissioned this survey.
