Mississippi voters support processes to strengthen trust, security, and access in elections
To better understand Mississippi voters’ views on election process and administration, Arc Insights conducted a statewide survey of likely 2024 general election voters on behalf of Secure Democracy Foundation. Our findings, summarized below, show broad consensus around several key issues.
Mississippi voters support policies that build trust and strengthen security in elections
According to the poll, 74% of Mississippi voters support using an electronic ballot tracking system to track the status of their absentee ballot at any time until it is verified and counted, and only 17% are opposed.
The poll also found that 62% of Mississippi voters support allowing election officials to contact voters with mistakes on their absentee ballots, such as a missing signature, in order to verify their identity and give them the opportunity to correct the mistake.
Mississippi voters support measures that improve voting access
74% of Mississippi voters support the state offering in-person early voting for all voters, with only 20% opposed, according to the poll.
The poll also found a majority of Mississippi voters support changes to the state’s vote by mail system. 65% support allowing eligible Mississippi voters to request an absentee ballot through a secure online system as long as the voter can prove their identity and residence. Additionally, 51% support allowing an eligible Mississippi voter to pick up an absentee ballot application in any public building in Mississippi, such as a post office or library.
Finally, Mississippi voters strongly support restoring voting rights to citizens with prior felony convictions. According to the poll, 80% support restoring voting eligibility to someone with a past felony conviction who is no longer incarcerated and is living, working, and paying taxes in their community, with only 17% opposed.
Methodology
These results are from an Arc Insights poll based on online surveys of 600 Mississippi likely 2024 general voters. The survey was conducted between November 13-16, 2023, from cell phone users randomly drawn from a sample of registered voters reflecting the demographic and partisan characteristics of the voting population. The survey has an overall margin of sampling error of +/- 4.0%. This survey was commissioned by Secure Democracy Foundation.
