New Hampshire Elections Prove Fair, Free, Safe and Secure as Polls Close & Process Continues
CONCORD, N.H. – Following the closure of polling places across New Hampshire, Secure Democracy Foundation Director of Advocacy Diego Echeverri released the following statement on election administration:
“New Hampshire election administrators deserve our gratitude for their tireless work to ensure fair, free, safe, and secure elections. Now, with the polls closed, their work continues. It's essential that voters, candidates, and the media understand that administering elections involves a process governed by state laws and local procedures – and work continues well into election night and the days ahead.
“Hardworking local and state election officials are making sure that every vote is counted, the hallmark of our American democracy. Clear legal timelines and deadlines exist to ensure all votes are counted and reported. Efforts to derail that process should be roundly rejected, and election officials should be able to do their jobs free from fear, intimidation or political interference. Now, we urge the public to exercise patience as election workers continue with their important work.”
In the face of unprecedented challenges to elections and election officials alike, a recent report from Secure Democracy Foundation details the laws, practices, and processes that govern the post-election period in key states, including New Hampshire.
The report,Opening the Curtain: A Multistate Look at the Laws that Govern Verification, Counting, Canvassing, & the Certification of Votes, walks through the crucial steps to the election process that come after a voter casts their ballot. The report is designed as a go-to resource for reporters who plan to cover the post-election period. A timeline summary for New Hampshire is available in English and in Spanish.
