Mis- and Disinformation: What Is It and How Can I Help Combat It?
Latinos have often been the targets of mis- and disinformation campaigns that diminish the community’s impact on civic engagement and public life. This issue has only worsened with the expansion of online communication — avenues our community rely on as we access tight-knit social networks and other information. As we prepare our community for participating in the 2022 midterm elections, we all must remain vigilant and equipped to recognize, report, and combat efforts to disempower and silence the Latino population with mis- and disinformation. This session, convened by SDUSA and chaired by Meta Platforms, Inc. will provide participants with tools to engage in this work as part of their daily social media engagement routine.
Speakers:
Hon. Remi Garza, President, Texas Association of Elections Administrators (TAEA) and Elections Administrator, Cameron County, TX
Ms. Lauren Protentis, Partnerships and Engagements Lead, Mis, Dis and Malinformation (MDM Team), Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)
Mr. Juan Rosa, National Director of Civic Engagement, NALEO Educational Fund
