Senate Elections Legislation Fails To Put Texas Voters First

Secure Democracy urges legislators to advance bipartisan solutions to strengthen Texas elections

AUSTIN, TX —  In response to the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee voting Senate Bill 1 out of committee, Secure Democracy issued the following statement:

“Texas voters deserve bipartisan solutions that strengthen Texas elections and improve voter access for all, but legislation passed by the Senate State Affairs Committee fails to reach that goal,” said Sarah Walker, executive director of Secure Democracy. “Secure Democracy urges legislative leaders to come together and prioritize election reforms that will create more transparent and fair elections for all Texans and protect the freedom to vote, including expanding early voting options as Gov. Abbott did for the 2020 elections, allowing voters to fix simple mistakes on their mail ballots, and passing online voter registration.”
